Sample itinerary (Note: All schedules are subject to change according to weather, sea, diving, & local conditions)
Day 1 (1-2 dives): 1-3 pm. Our staff will meet you at Mali Airport or local hotel and transfer you to Blue Manta at Kalabahi port. Depending on arrival time, we do local check dive plus night dive.
Day 2-4 (3-4 dives x3 days): Alor & Pantar Strait (Islands of Kepa, Pura, Ternate, & Buaya between Pantar & Alor); nutrient-rich adventurous currents and diversity of dive site formations, make for an abundance of coral and fish, both big and small. We may visit a local village and substitute for a dive.
Day 5 (3 dives): Treweg Island or Beanbagan. The latter with black sand, great for critter spotting. Sail to Lembata.
Day 6 (3 dives): Pulau Lembata area, smoldering Volcanoes reaching down into crystal clear waters fringed with pristine black corals and large sponges. Sail to Maumere.
Day 7 (2 dives): Maumere; Pulau Babi or Pulau Besar. Sail back to Maumere Port where you spend last night on board. Plenty of time to wash & dry equipment, have lunch, rest & relaxation, and if need be, an early flight on Trip Departure day.
Day 8 (0 dives): 5am-12pm. Check out after light breakfast & farewells, we transfer to a local hotel or airport. Take your pre-booked flight to Bali.
Diving days: 7 days (22 dives)
Starting in Alor, far from the crowds, this region has fantastic macro life, stunning coral reefs, an abundance of fish, and schooling pelagic providing amazing diving. Watch out for larger pelagic in the cooler waters of the South, including Mola Mola, thresher & hammerhead sharks. During the surface interval, you may even have the chance to spot dolphins or pilot whales. Even blue & sperm whales can be seen here. We sail overnight to Lembata sailing north or south depending on conditions, then on to beautiful Maumere, surrounded by volcanoes and mountains, we begin our journey discovering the outer pristine coral reefs and walls.
The last dive will be on the penultimate day of the trip at around noon. Divers are recommended to wait for 24hours before flying after the last dive.
Everyone is welcome on board, no matter what level your certification. We educate divers from the first contact to be proficient, environmentally sensitive, safe divers who respect not only their own but the safety of those around them, whilst ensuring contact with all marine life is passive and respectful.
Open Water referral requires a student to complete confined water training before joining an MV Blue Manta cruise. All PADI Referral forms to be forwarded to our office before the trip departure.
